The Charmolüe family held it from 1896 until 2006, when Martin and Olivier Bouygues bought it and began rebuilding the cellars and the vineyard. La Dame de Montrose was created in 1983 by Jean-Louis Charmolüe for his mother Yvonne, who took over the estate when her husband died and ran it through the 1940s and 50s. It is the Merlot-led selection — rounder and more open than the grand vin — and spends twelve months in barrel, about a third of them new.

2019 vintage: June was cool and wet enough to make flowering uneven, and then the season turned: hot and dry through July and August, days above 35°C but with a fifteen-degree drop at night, which is what kept the acidity in. Rain arrived at the two moments it was needed, and the fruit came in small, thick-skinned and in good order. The wine has the depth of a warm year without the heaviness — dark fruit and cedar on supple tannin, open now and holding well for a decade.

ABV: 14.5%

Vol: 75cl

Allergens: Contains sulphites

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0021/0862/0858/files/LaDamedeMontrose_Saint-Estephe_FINE_WILD.png?v=1790867970
