CHÂTEAU LA MISSION HAUT BRION 2016
2016 La Mission Haut-Brion, Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux
Region: Pessac-Léognan, Graves, Bordeaux, France
Grape: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
Rating: 98 Points - Robert Parker
Tasting: Deep, inky purple-black colour with stunning concentration. The nose offers an extraordinary bouquet of crème de cassis, blackberry liqueur, graphite, and crushed violets, with complex notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, and mineral undertones. On the palate, this wine displays remarkable power and elegance, with velvety tannins supporting intense dark fruit flavours layered with espresso, dark chocolate, and exotic spices. The distinctive gravelly terroir imparts a sublime mineral backbone leading to an exceptionally long, multi-dimensional finish.
Pairing: Perfect with prime rib of beef, roasted rack of lamb, aged game, or mature hard cheeses. Also exceptional alongside rich dishes featuring black truffle or dark chocolate tart.
Producer: Château La Mission Haut-Brion represents the pinnacle of Graves winemaking, situated directly across from its legendary neighbour, Haut-Brion, on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Under the stewardship of Prince Robert of Luxembourg and the Dillon family, this historic estate has been meticulously managed since 1983, utilising the same exceptional gravelly soils that have made Pessac-Léognan famous worldwide. The château's unique terroir, combined with traditional winemaking techniques and modern precision, consistently produces wines of extraordinary depth and longevity that rival the greatest First Growths of Bordeaux.
