In the early twentieth century, the French Emile Prudhomme introduced pepper cultivation in Madagascar following a mission to Java.
Director of the National Institute of colonial agronomy, he wrote in 1899 a notice on Agriculture where he states: "it is not yet made serious cultivation trials of pepper in Madagascar, but it shouldbelievein the success of this vine on most of the East coast. "Nossi-be corresponds to where the pepper made its introduction to grow later in the Sambirano.
This hand sorted pepper is a far cry from the common black peppercorn in so much that it is bursting with flavour as well as smooth spicey finish.
