The estate began as a monastery: the Feuillants built a convent here in 1662, and the buildings still stand. The Cordier family ran it through most of the twentieth century; it has belonged to CA Grands Crus since 2004. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the plantings, with an unusually high proportion of Petit Verdot behind it. Prieur de Meyney takes its name from the old Prieuré des Couleys and comes from the parcels that give the softer wine — made the same way as the grand vin, with less Petit Verdot in the blend and a shorter spell in barrel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e2018 vintage:\u003c\/strong\u003e Two years in one. A wet, warm first half brought heavy mildew pressure and cost some estates a good part of the crop; then from July it barely rained again, through a hot summer and a long dry September and October. The fruit that came through ripened fully and came in small and thick-skinned. This is a ripe, deep 2018 with the earthy, upright Saint-Estèphe frame underneath — plenty of tannin, but the fruit to carry it.
