CLASE AZUL REPOSADO
This exquisite Reposado tequila is made from Organic agaves, carefully cultivated for nine years before slow-cooking in traditional ovens. Fermentation is achieved via a proprietary blend of yeasts, followed by distillation and triple-filtration.
Maturation occurs in fine oak barrels before the liquid is bottled in hand-painted and numbered decanters. Clase Azul Reposado has earned Gold medals from the Beverage Testing Institute and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The first Clase Azul icon and signature creation, its smooth aged tequila and iconic ceramic decanter are recognized worldwide as a statement of Mexican craftsmanship.
The palate reveals Agave nectar, vanilla, candied orange peel and toasted oak with light hints of cinnamon and banana.
Tequila Categories
Tequila is a spirit made from the blue agave plant, primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila in the west of Mexico. The beverage is categorized mainly based on ageing time, leading to different flavours, aromas, and complexity. The main categories include Blanco (or Silver), Reposado, Añejo, and Extra Añejo.
Blanco Tequila: This is the purest form of tequila, as it is bottled or stored immediately after distillation or aged less than two months in stainless steel or neutral oak barrels. It showcases the raw flavours of the agave and tends to have a strong, clear taste.
Reposado Tequila: Reposado translates to "rested" in Spanish. Reposado tequilas are aged in wood barrels (often previously used to age bourbon) for a period between two months and one year. This ageing process mellows the taste of the agave, infusing the tequila with wood flavours while smoothing its sharp edges. It balances the bold flavours of a Blanco and the more complex notes of aged tequila.
Añejo and Extra Añejo Tequila: These are aged for even longer periods, with Añejo aged for one to three years and Extra Añejo for more than three years. The extensive ageing process introduces deeper wood flavours, greater smoothness, and complexity, making them prized for their sophisticated taste profiles.
To summarize, Reposado is a type of tequila that differs from others primarily in its ageing process and resulting flavour profile. It rests in a sweet spot between the spirited Blanco and the more mature Añejo and Extra Añejo. It offers a unique balance of agave purity and the complexity conferred by the ageing process.
