Mexican Vanilla Pods
Choose options

Traditional vanilla pods from the Papantla region in southern Mexico, cultivated in the undergrowth of Mexican rainforests since the 12th century. This vanilla planifolia delivers fruity and chocolate notes with complex scent reminiscent of aged bourbon, making it particularly well-suited for baking applications. The original vanilla of the Aztecs, who used it to soften chocolate's bitterness, this represents the authentic source of all vanilla cultivation.
Mexican vanilla holds historical significance as the birthplace of vanilla cultivation. The Totonacs, inhabitants of the Gulf of Mexico coastal regions, were the first to cultivate vanilla and maintained the monopoly until the 19th century. When Louis XIV attempted to grow vanilla on La Réunion island, efforts failed until 1850 when Edmond Albius discovered manual pollination techniques, as Europeans didn't know the Mexican Melipona bee was the natural pollinator.
Perfect for flan, crème brûlée, homemade jam, or creamy sauces. Cut pods in half to collect seeds for custards, rice pudding, chocolate desserts, sorbets, macaroon batter, or pancake batter.
