MARMANDE TOMATOES
Origin: France
Season: June- September
These exquisite Marmande tomatoes are cultivated by a collective of five dedicated growers across Provence, representing one of France's most celebrated heirloom varieties. Originating from the town of Marmande in southwestern France, these heritage tomatoes offer a distinct character that supermarket varieties simply cannot match.
Rich in flavour with the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, these Marmande tomatoes deliver an authentic taste experience. Their characteristic ribbed appearance, vibrant red colour, and firm, meaty texture make them as visually stunning as they are delicious—a testament to the care and expertise of their growers.
The Marmande variety is renowned for its exceptional beefsteak qualities. These large, irregularly-shaped tomatoes are prized by French chefs for their intense, complex flavour profile and substantial, meaty flesh that holds its structure beautifully when sliced. Their naturally low acidity and concentrated sweetness, combined with minimal seeds and juice, make them ideal for both raw preparations and gentle cooking.
Serve these tomatoes simply sliced with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt to appreciate their complex flavours, or create a stunning salad with burrata and fresh basil. For a warming option, roast them gently with herbs to concentrate their natural sweetness before serving alongside crusty bread. Their robust texture also makes them perfect for traditional French dishes like tomato tarte tatin, rustic gratins, or the classic Provençal tomates farcies.
Producer: Founded by Alexandre Ricaud in 2021, Polène represents a collaborative approach to sustainable farming. Their five dedicated farms employ holistic growing methods including crop rotation, beneficial insects for natural pest control, and soil enrichment using manure and organic fertilisers, ensuring tomatoes of exceptional quality and environmental integrity.
Please note: Our Provence tomatoes are picked before full ripeness to ensure safe transit – fully sun-ripened tomatoes are too delicate for shipping. Simply ripen them at room temperature for 2-3 days at home to enjoy their full, authentic Provence flavour.
