Tasting: This classic Albariño opens with distinctive salty minerality and an array of pure, clean white fruit aromas. The palate shimmers with vibrant acidity, displaying flavours of white peach, pear and citrus zest. The 5-6 months of lees ageing adds texture and complexity, giving the wine a silky mouthfeel whilst maintaining its characteristic Atlantic freshness. A vivid streak of lemon and mineral acidity carries through to a crisp, lingering finish with subtle hints of fresh herbs and sea spray.
Pairing: Perfect with grilled Ōra King Salmon or Chilean Sea Bass with lemon and herbs. Exceptional alongside Carabineros or Shark Bay Prawns simply grilled with garlic. The wine's salinity makes it ideal with Sturia Oscietra Caviar or fresh oysters. For a regional pairing, serve with Cinco Jotas Presa Ibérico. Also delightful with Vacherin Mont d'Or or young Pecorino Sardo.
Producer: Bodegas Castro Martin stands as a family-owned beacon of quality in Val do Salnés, the coolest and most Atlantic-influenced subzone of Rías Baixas. Founded by Domingo Martin-Morales who built the current bodega in 1981, it was the first winery in the region equipped with stainless steel tanks. Now managed by his daughter Angela Martin, a biologist and oenologist, the estate champions sustainable viticulture across fragmented pergola-trained vineyards on sandy soils rich in minerals over granite and quartz bedrock.
Vintage: The 2022 vintage in Rías Baixas produced aromatic and intensely concentrated wines. Following a dry winter, the growing season saw warm conditions that accelerated ripening. Light rains before harvest refreshed the grapes, preserving the bright acidity that defines great Albariño whilst adding concentration and depth to the fruit character.
