Tasting: This exceptional white displays vibrant floral aromas of white flowers and citrus blossoms, with notes of tangerine, green apple and white peach. The 10 months on lees adds a silky texture and depth to the palate. Fresh citrus and mineral notes dominate, with a riverstone salinity that speaks to the coastal terroir. The wine shows beautiful balance between fruity freshness and subtle roundness, with crisp acidity carrying through to a long, sapid finish.
Pairing: Ideal with grilled Ōra King Salmon or Chilean Sea Bass with lemon butter. Exceptional with Tristan da Cunha Lobster or Carabineros prawns. For cheese, pair with fresh Vacherin Mont d'Or or young Pecorino Sardo. Beautiful alongside Baby King Oyster mushrooms sautéed with garlic and herbs, or as an aperitif with Sturia Oscietra Caviar on blinis.
Producer: Rocca di Frassinello represents a unique Italian-French collaboration between Castellare di Castellina and Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite. Located in the heart of Maremma between Bolgheri and Scansano, the estate benefits from constant sea breezes and a warmer climate than other Tuscan regions. The stunning Renzo Piano-designed winery crowns the hilltop vineyards, where limestone-rich soils and galestro create ideal conditions for Vermentino to express its full Mediterranean character.
Vintage: The 2021 growing season in Tuscany began with a mild, wet winter that replenished water tables. Spring brought frost challenges, followed by a hot, dry summer that concentrated flavours whilst maintaining freshness. The persistent drought reduced yields but enhanced quality, with harvest occurring under ideal conditions. The result is wines of exceptional purity and concentration.
