CHÂTEAU TROPLONG MONDOT 2011
Château Troplong Mondot - Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé 2011
Region: Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, France
Grape: Merlot 90%, Cabernet Sauvignon 5%, Cabernet Franc 5%
Rating: 93/100 Robert Parker, 17/20 Jancis Robinson MW
When to drink: 2016-2031 (Wine Advocate)
Tasting: Deep and opulent, showing intense aromas of ripe blackberry, plum and dark cherry, interwoven with notes of cocoa, roasted coffee and violets. The palate presents remarkable concentration with velvety tannins, offering waves of black fruits, mocha and subtle minerality, leading to a long, complex finish characteristic of Troplong Mondot's elevated limestone terroir.
Pairing: Excellent with Sashi Beef ribeye or a dish of Iberico Secreto with ceps. Also pairs beautifully with Poulet de Bresse in a rich mushroom sauce featuring our morels. For cheese, try with aged Parmigiano Reggiano or Pont-l'Évêque. Decant for 1-2 hours before serving.
Producer: Château Troplong Mondot occupies one of Saint-Émilion's highest points, with its 33-hectare vineyard sitting atop the limestone plateau at 110 meters above sea level. The estate has seen remarkable investment and improvement since the Pariente family's acquisition in 2017, though its reputation for powerful, concentrated wines was well established under the previous ownership of Christine Valette-Pariente, who drove quality to new heights from the 1980s onwards.
Vintage: 2011 was characterized by unusual weather patterns, with a very warm spring leading to early flowering, followed by a cooler summer. Careful vineyard management was crucial, with selective harvesting essential to achieve optimal ripeness. The result is a wine that shows impressive concentration while maintaining freshness and balance.
