Producer: La Brune, French for 'Brunette', was created when multi-award-winning winemaker Nico Grobler visited Burgundy and fell in love with Burgundian winemaking and the expression of their wines. Bringing this philosophy back to South African soil, his wines focus on finesse, elegance and purity of fruit. La Brune has access to some of the highest-elevation Chardonnay vineyards in South Africa, benefiting from the cool climate conditions that Elgin is renowned for.
The 2024 Vintage was made using 100% whole bunch pressing, with 50% fermented in stainless steel and 50% in barrel. Aged for 14 months in untoasted 500-litre barrels with 30% new oak, the wine shows lemon, flint and a touch of nutmeg on the nose with beautiful focus. The palate is mouth-filling with citrus, orange and lemon zest, coconut and almond notes, displaying such verve that really carries through the finish. An outstanding Chardonnay.
