Producer: Alois Lageder is one of Alto Adige's most considered estates, now in the sixth family generation. The house works biodynamically, runs a vegetable garden alongside the vines and an organic restaurant alongside the winery, designs its own labels — sometimes painted by hand — and farms with diversity as a guiding principle. The conviction is that healthier soils give healthier vines and more honest wines, and the estate has spent decades proving the point.
Misto Mare is a wine with a purpose: a blend built to support the family's vintner partners through the years it takes to convert vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming, during which they can't yet sell certified fruit. Some thirty growers contribute, fourteen grape varieties find their way in — autochthonous and international, white and red — drawn from sites between 210 and 740 metres across Alto Adige's volcanic and limestone-rich soils. Fermented and aged in stainless steel with partial malolactic, the wine emerges light yellow with bronze reflections, the nose youthful and fruity — apple, pear, citrus, white flowers. The palate is medium-bodied, dry, well balanced, with a silky texture and a moderate acidity that lingers clean.
