Chabichou du Poitou AOP
Chabichou du Poitou AOP Sale price£9.50

Traditional French goat cheese from the Poitou-Charentes region, shaped like a distinctive truncated cone known as a "bonde" after wine barrel corks. This AOP-protected cheese has legendary origins dating back to 732 when Saracens settled in the region after the Battle of Poitiers, bringing their goats and cheesemaking traditions. The name derives from "cheblis," meaning goat in Arabic.

Made exclusively from goat's milk using traditional methods, each cheese is hand-ladled into perforated moulds embossed with "CdP" letters and aged for a minimum of 10 days. The cheese develops a delicately wrinkled natural rind with occasional grey-blue spots, while the interior remains bright white, dense, and creamy. When young, it offers mild, slightly tangy flavours with citrusy zing and grassy notes. As it ages longer, a creamline develops below the rind and flavours become richer with hazelnut and fresh mushroom notes.

Remove from refrigeration 30 minutes before serving. Perfect with crusty bread, fresh fruits, walnuts, or a drizzle of honey. Pairs beautifully with Sancerre or light Pinot Noir.
