Tasting: Deep ruby red with garnet reflections. The nose reveals complex aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, and Mediterranean herbs with subtle notes of tobacco and dark chocolate. On the palate, this wine displays remarkable elegance and power, with concentrated dark fruit flavours, refined tannins, and a distinctive mineral backbone that reflects the unique terroir of Bolgheri. The finish is long and sophisticated with hints of liquorice and spice.
Pairing: Exceptional with grilled steak, wild boar, aged Pecorino cheese, or braised lamb. Also pairs beautifully with rich pasta dishes featuring truffle or porcini mushrooms.
Producer: Tenuta San Guido revolutionised Italian winemaking when Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta first planted Bordeaux varietals in the 1940s along the Tuscan coast. Named after the stone-strewn road that winds through the estate, Sassicaia became Italy's first "Super Tuscan" and earned legendary status as one of the world's greatest wines. The estate's unique microclimate, influenced by the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea and the estate's distinctive soils, creates wines of extraordinary complexity and longevity that have earned Bolgheri its own DOC designation.
