Tasting: This exceptional Super Tuscan reveals splendid aromatic complexity with dark fruit, tobacco and spice on the nose. Dense and vibrant in colour, it offers beautiful notes of cassis, blackberries, graphite and licorice. The palate develops complex fruity nuances framed by a dense structure with tannins achieving rare harmony between firmness and fleshiness. Full-bodied with silky, linear tannins and excellent purity, concluding with a long, balanced and fresh finish.
Pairing: Perfect with Sashi Beef or A5 Japanese Wagyu, where the wine's structured tannins complement rich marbling. Exceptional alongside Cinco Jotas Presa or Iberico Secreto. For game, pair with Squab Pigeon or Guinea Fowl. Cheese lovers will appreciate it with aged Fort Saint Antoine Comté or Parmigiano Reggiano.
Producer: Founded in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori in Bolgheri's coastal Maremma region, Ornellaia established itself as a Super Tuscan pioneer. Now owned by Marchesi de' Frescobaldi, the estate combines Bolgheri's unique soils and maritime climate with obsessive attention to excellence. Each vintage since 2006 is characterised by a single word capturing its essence, with contemporary artists creating special labels. The 2013 vintage represents "L'Eleganza" (Elegance).
Vintage: Initially challenging with late budding and flowering due to cold, wet conditions, 2013 ultimately proved exceptional. A warm summer and ideal September with cool temperatures and sunny weather allowed slow, complete ripening. This created perfect balance and the elegant character that defines the vintage, producing wines with remarkable aromatic quality and structural finesse.
