Tasting: This rare Chinon Blanc displays a pale gold colour with crystalline clarity. The nose is magnificently intense, offering floral notes intertwined with mineral complexity and fresh citrus aromas. On the palate, it reveals a fruity character with delicate flavours of fresh agrumes and white stone fruits. The wine shows beautiful richness and texture whilst maintaining a light, fresh character. A subtle elegance carries through to the superb length, with mineral notes providing backbone and definition.
Pairing: Perfect served chilled at 8-10°C as an aperitif or alongside seafood and shellfish. Exceptional with grilled Alaskan Black Cod or Ōra King Salmon with asparagus. Beautiful with Carabineros or Tiger Prawns simply grilled. For cheese, pair with young Chèvre or Pont-l'Évêque. The wine's mineral freshness makes it ideal with seared scallops or Baby King Oyster mushrooms sautéed with herbs.
Producer: Couly-Dutheil has been an integral part of Chinon's winemaking landscape since 1921, when Baptiste Dutheil established the estate. Now led by Jacques Couly-Dutheil and his son Arnaud, the fourth generation continues the family tradition. With 104 hectares including the prestigious Clos de l'Echo and Clos de l'Olive vineyards, they are renowned for their Cabernet Franc but also craft exceptional Chenin Blanc from limestone-rich terroirs too calcareous for red varieties. The Les Chanteaux vineyards combine parcels from Goupillières and Mollières on the western hillsides of Chinon.
Vintage: The 2020 vintage in the Loire Valley proved excellent, with favourable weather conditions throughout the growing season. Chenin Blanc performed particularly well, benefiting from a warm, dry growing season that brought grapes to phenolic ripeness rapidly. The resulting wines show fruit-forward freshness with concentrated flavours whilst maintaining the Loire's characteristic bright acidity.
