Tasting: An extraordinary expression of old-vine Mosel Riesling that exemplifies precision and complexity. The nose reveals layers of white peach, lime blossom, and crushed slate, with subtle hints of green apple and white flowers. The palate displays remarkable tension between crystalline fruit purity and mineral intensity, offering notes of citrus zest, ripe pear, and wet stone. The characteristic Mosel raciness is perfectly balanced by textural depth from the old vines, leading to an exceptionally long, mineral-driven finish.
Pairing: This refined Riesling pairs beautifully with Sturia Beluga Caviar, its precise acidity and mineral notes creating a sublime match. Exceptional with King Crab, where the wine's complexity enhances the shellfish's sweet flesh. For cheese, try with aged Vacherin Mont d'Or, or serve alongside wild Girolles with Autumn Truffle for an elegant combination.
Producer: Markus Molitor represents the eighth generation of his family to make wine in the Mosel. Since taking over in 1984, he has expanded his holdings to include some of the region's finest vineyard sites. The 'Alte Reben' (old vines) bottling comes from parcels averaging over 80 years old, planted on precipitously steep slate slopes. Molitor's meticulous approach in both vineyard and cellar, including sustainable viticulture and extended lees aging, results in wines of exceptional purity and longevity.
Vintage: 2021 proved to be an outstanding vintage in the Mosel, despite early season challenges. A cool, wet spring gave way to a perfect late summer and autumn, with optimal diurnal temperature variations. These conditions produced Rieslings of remarkable concentration and acidity, with excellent aging potential.
